"From nature's gift to your home, sustaining life one bamboo piece at a time."

Every great company has an origin story. Ours begins not in a boardroom or a laboratory, but in an ordinary kitchen on an ordinary evening-the kind of moment that changes everything.

It Started in a Kitchen

March 2014, Fujian, China – Tina Zeng was prepping dinner for her young daughters in the kitchen. The air smelled of home-cooked food, and the sizzle of greens hitting hot oil filled the room.

She reached for the plastic cutting board she'd used for nearly a year – but something felt off. Its edges were warped and tinged yellow, not just scratched like before. When she looked at the tomato chunks she'd chopped, her heart dropped: thin plastic shavings stuck to the red flesh. A faint, chemical odor pricked her nose.

"That instant, I felt like a failure," Tina later recalled. "I couldn't even make a safe meal for my kids. But more than guilt, I felt angry – angry at myself for never questioning these everyday things, angry at an industry that let toxic materials into our kitchens, angry that I had to pick between convenience and my family's safety."

She threw out the tomatoes and the cutting board, then restarted with fresh ingredients. That night, she couldn't sleep. By dawn, she'd made a decision – one that would soon change not just her life, but the lives of millions of families worldwide who, like her, wanted to keep their loved ones safe.

A Return to Root

Tina Zeng grew up in Fujian Province, a land where bamboo forests have stood tall for centuries. Her grandfather was a traditional bamboo craftsman, and as a child, she spent countless afternoons in his workshop-watching him turn raw bamboo into objects that were both beautiful and useful.
"He used to say, 'Bamboo always remembers its purpose,'" Tina shares. "I didn't get what he meant back then. But the morning after that plastic spatula incident, I walked through the bamboo groves near my home-and suddenly, it clicked."
She ran her hand along a bamboo stalk, just as her grandfather had taught her. Smooth. Strong. Cool to the touch. This material had sustained Asian households for thousands of years: it's naturally antimicrobial, never leaches toxins, grows without pesticides or fertilizers, and when it's done serving its purpose, it simply returns to the earth.
"I realized we'd been fixing a problem that never had to exist," Tina says. "We invented plastic to make life easier-but in doing that, we created a thousand new troubles. All the while, the solution was right here, growing in our own backyard."

Why GuangLong

When Tina Zeng founded her company, she knew the name had to mean something deeper than just a brand identifier.

She chose "Guanglong" with intention. "Guang" means light-the light that reveals truth, that guides us forward. "Long" speaks to prosperity and flourishing, not just for business, but for communities and ecosystems.

"I wanted a name that reminded us daily why we exist," Tina Zeng explains. "We're here to illuminate a better path. To show that prosperity doesn't have to come at the planet's expense. That business can be a force for regeneration, not just extraction."

It's a philosophy that has guided every decision since.

Building Different

Guanglong started small: a converted warehouse, just three employees, and a team of skilled craftsmen. But from day one, Tina Zeng set a rule for Guanglong that remains sacred to this day-we never compromise when it comes to our customers.

Every prototype we made was tested to destruction. If a cutting board warped, we improved the curing process. If a spoon felt rough, we refined the surface treatment. If a cutlery holder didn't fit the aesthetic of a modern kitchen, we redesigned it.

"We don't compete with other bamboo products," says David Chen, Guanglong's Design Director. "We compete with the best products in the world-regardless of material. Bamboo isn't a selling point; it's an extra sustainability advantage."

This strategy paid off. In 2018, a Costco buyer visited our factory for the first time. He picked up a Guanglong cutting board, examined it silently, then said: "This is the best cutting board I've used in 20 years. And the fact that it's made from sustainable materials? That's the icing on the cake."

The Guanglong Difference

Today, Guanglong produces over 50 million pieces annually, serving partners like Costco, Walmart, and Smirly across 30 countries. We hold multiple design patents and certifications including FDA, FSC, and BSCI.

But numbers don't tell the real story. What makes Guanglong different isn't our scale-it's our approach.

Our Bamboo Philosophy

We work exclusively with FSC-certified bamboo forests in Fujian Province. Bamboo is remarkable-it's technically a grass that can grow three feet in a single day and reach maturity in 3-5 years. When harvested correctly, the root system remains intact, actually strengthening the forest and preventing soil erosion. A single bamboo grove produces 35% more oxygen than equivalent trees while sequestering more carbon.

But here's what matters most: We don't just harvest sustainably. We invest in these forests. We work with local communities to ensure fair wages and sustainable livelihoods. We've helped establish bamboo farming cooperatives that have lifted entire villages economically while preserving their ancestral lands.

Our Process

We've eliminated chemical adhesives, using only food-safe natural bonding agents. Our carbonization process-which strengthens bamboo and enhances its inherent antibacterial properties-uses precise temperature control, never chemical treatments. Even our finishing oils are plant-based and food-safe.

"People ask why we go to such lengths," says Lin Wei, our production manager. "It would be cheaper to use conventional methods. But Zeng has a saying: 'Every shortcut we take ends up in someone's home, someone's body, or someone's environment.' We won't do that."

The Real Impact

A single plastic cutting board takes over 400 years to decompose naturally. In contrast, a Guanglong bamboo cutting board not only lasts 5-7 years but also fully biodegrades naturally within a few months after disposal.

Choosing Guanglong means eliminating centuries of potential pollution for our shared future. Reducing the use of 50 million plastic cutting boards each year is equivalent to preventing the accumulation of plastic waste that would otherwise linger for billions of years.

Yet the significance goes far beyond this. Every Guanglong product embodies multiple layers of value:

Carbon absorbed during the growth of bamboo

Petroleum saved from being used in plastic production

No toxic substances leaching into food

Forests that remain lush, rather than depleted

 Communities thriving through sustainable development

What We've Learned

Ten years in, Tina Zeng has learned that changing the world doesn't require grand gestures. It requires millions of small, everyday choices.

"I used to think we needed to convince people to care about the environment," she says. "But people already care. What they need is real alternatives that don't force them to choose between their values and their lives."

This insight has shaped how we innovate. When we designed our modular kitchen organizer for Walmart, we didn't start with 'how do we make this more sustainable?' We started with 'what do real kitchens actually need?' The answer-flexible storage that adapts to different utensils and small spaces-happened to work perfectly with bamboo's properties. Sustainability wasn't the pitch; it was the natural result of good design.

"That's when we know we've succeeded," notes Emma Rodriguez, our VP of Product Development. "When customers tell us they forgot they were buying an 'eco-product' because they were just buying the best product."

Join the Movement

Tina Zeng has a message she wants you to hear clearly: When you choose Guanglong, you're not just a customer-you're a partner in protecting our planet.

Take that bamboo cutting board in your kitchen. It began as a young shoot in a lush Fujian bamboo forest, part of a thriving ecosystem where its roots anchored soil, its leaves turned carbon dioxide into oxygen, and wildlife flourished.

Years later, when it's served its purpose, it won't linger in landfills or pollute oceans. Instead, it will gently return to the earth as nutrients in months-not centuries. No plastic waste. No toxic residue. Just a cycle that honors nature.

"Every time someone swaps a plastic utensil for ours, they're casting a powerful vote," Tina says. "It's their way of saying: I believe we can do better. I believe convenience and conscience don't have to clash. I believe my daily choices hold weight."

Looking Forward

When tough decisions arise, Tina Zeng still starts her mornings with walks through the bamboo forests nearby.
"Every walk here teaches me something new," she reflects. "Bamboo bends in storms but never breaks. It grows rapidly yet stays deeply rooted. It gives abundantly without draining the earth. That's not just how we run our business-it's how we all need to thrive on this planet."
Guanglong has grown far beyond what Tina initially imagined, but its mission remains unshaken: to light a better path forward. To prove business can be a force for healing, not harm. To show the most radical act might just be choosing better.
We're proud of our partnerships with major retailers. We're honored by our certifications and patents. But what truly fuels us? It's the emails from parents-just like Tina once was-thanking us for making their kitchens safer. It's knowing every product we make means one less piece of plastic polluting our oceans. It's seeing bamboo forests thrive, because they hold economic value-value that protects them.
This is what Guanglong stands for: prosperity rooted in sustainability.
